Catching Up

November 11th, 2021

Nothing important to report… just been awhile since last written, so merely a little update.

Only photo activity spurred by lazy happenstance, of just my mind just wandering one night, a day or two after my fifty-second anniversary of my birth into this here life/world, upon that meaningless incremental measurement of illusional time, fifty-two, and that the most commonly recognized year’s length, is fifty-two weeks… hey, why don’t I do a photo series of fifty-two photos in fifty-two weeks?!

I have done a Photo-A-Day series twice… the first being not too long after I done went digital, so for the first three months or so of 2011, I did it, until I didn’t, and just stopped.  Second, being, I don’t know, some other point after then, and it failed even more miserably, and believe just barely lasted a month.

So, knowing my proclivity to not getting too far with Photo-A-Day series, I thought this Fifty-Two In Fifty-Two idea, might just be doable, and that I could muster myself to shoot something at least once a week.  And well, four weeks in, so far so good.  Been nice to get myself out and do some shooting.

This Fifty-Two In Fifty-Two series, was seriously spur of the moment… the anniversary of my birth fell on a thursday, and my mind meandering upon the idea of the series happened like the next night, or the day the week ended, so Week One’s photo was just that of a young lady I spied out my kitchen window, in the cemetery that is literally right next to where I presently live, and her sitting, and later laying, next to a dear loved one to her, that is no longer physically present in this here life/world, my invading her private time, and snapping an image of her doing so.

Anyway, as for the rules for this Fifty-Two In Fifty-Two photo series, I really only had two:  1) that the images taken for it, had to be done so with my real camera, not me cheating and just snapping off some pic with my phone… and, 2) that the week’s image was to be posted at the end of each week on saturday.  That was it.

A few weeks in, and the images just happening to be black and white images, I had to then think if I just was going to let this series be in B&W only?  Since the first three weeks just happened to be so…  And also, was that week’s image going to be the best image taken that week too?  Well, am just settling upon that Fifty-Two In Fifty-Two will be a black and white photo series, because, sure, okay, why not?  And that, at least so far, is not going to be the best, or my most favorite shot taken that week… pretty much just gonna keep it easy, and the bar low on this series, I guess, just to insure that I do make it through the fifty-two weeks, and complete it a year from now.

I sorta like the inclusion of the B&W rule though… since, having gone digital a decade ago, prior to, when I still shot film full time, I would regularly alternate between shooting color and black and white film, because I love black and white photography.  But, since going digital, and everything automatically always being shot in color, that focus on black and white photography not as predominant as it once was… so, welcome this little steering back towards going out shooting in just a black and white mindset.

Which, honestly, I have yet so far… as really I have just concluded whilst typing this here in the past couple minutes, that I am going to make the series be exclusively black and white (which thinking about it too, I guess I can update that fact on the series’ page on the site here)… and the fact that the images used, just ended up being converted to black and white in my usual editing process, and them just working better as B&W images, is just that… not me purposefully shooting them as black and white.

Which means, since I have now decided that this series is going to be all B&W, going forward, I will go into shooting each week, in a B&W mindset.  Heck, since I even have the Fuji camera now, I can even set the camera to only shoot in one of it’s black and white only modes.  Doubt I will… well, who knows… will see, and may try it out at some point, and go from there to whether I ever do it again.

Anywho…

From going out and shooting for this images, has garnered a couple shots which could actually add to the ol’ Photography section also…

Light At The End Of The Trail, Wide

As well as finally have an image to replace my homepage’s main image, for the first time in four months, with the image above… It’s better liked twin, that I shot right after the above image, except in vertical (below right), being one making it to the Photography section… and another, more seasonal, Autumnal image (below left), taken during Week Two’s shooting –

Another thing with the Fifty-Two In Fifty-Two series, it will just be one photo presented each week, to keep align with the photo-a-day mentality… it may not be a photo-a-week series, but it will be a photo-a-week series… so, essentially, just one photo, and one photo only… but, the last couple weeks have had alternates, runner-ups to being the photo of the week… Week Three to the left below, Week Four’s to the right –

This, Week Four’s shooting, also getting some shots that I ended up liking… like this entry’s lead in image above –

And lastly, these two below –

Okay, maybe not so much the above right, Beneath The Bridge one… I liked the soft lighting falling… but, needs something more, another element to it…

Anyway, that’s it.

So, watch every saturday for the next Fifty-Two In Fifty-Two image to drop… and if the past couple weeks are any indication, also additional regular photos being added to my Photography section..  Updates can always be known on my Twitter, of course… but, will try to update here also with an entry, for the non-Twitter’ers, subscribed to my RSS.

Hoping that this finds you all well, healthy, happy, and safe.  Wishing you all the best, and happy shooting.
